The Perfection Society was truly the toughest story I've ever written on a number of levels. To begin with, the subject matter is very dark and somewhat controversial. Along the way, I found myself becoming somewhat disenchanted with writing it, but I was committed to the project and I've never turned away from something I've started. It also has the distinction of being the first story of a new Doctor and I had some difficulty getting a grasp of Jym's [DeNatale's] characterization. It wasn't until I heard his few lines at the end of The Chronic Rift (155) that I began to get a better picture.

The beginning of a new era. My first full story as the Doctor. Though it is a rehashed plot line, I really enjoyed the story. I was kind of looking forward to the typical 'crazed-and-confused-after-the-regen' thing, but being on the verge of death throughout the story had its moments as well. Although I'm not quite as arrogant as my character, I loved the line when I first caught a glimpse in the rotor. Christine screaming "Demon!" and such was a great touch! Though upon writing this I've yet to hear the finished product, I hear the first part got some good reviews. I'm still a bit nervous about following in Jeff's [Coburn's] footsteps, but that's just because he's done such a great job.....and his legs are a bit longer than mine!
